Nha Trang For $12 A Day (Beach Resort On A Budget)

Beautiful Nha Trang Beach

Nha Trang is a beautiful little Vietnamese seaside resort. We’ve seen many reports in recent times that a large increase in Russian tourists has driven the prices up out of reach out the standard backpacker.

Whilst it’s true that the restaurants were way too costly for our meagre budgets there are still some crazy cheap prices available, which saw us spend less here per day than elsewhere in Vietnam.

Here’s how we did it.

Sleep

We scored a double room in a nice, clean hotel with all amenities for only $9 a night. It was right in the heart of it as well, meaning we barely had to spend money on transport. We booked Dung Trinh Hotel through booking.com who have a range of other budget options available.

Cost for 2 people for 4 days accommodation = $36

Eat

Restaurants are really expensive in Nha Trang compared with the rest of Vietnam, with standard meal prices up around the $7 mark. However you can still eat extremely well on a budget.

This is what we did:

Breakfast – Small cafes will do eggs and baguettes for $1.25 or you can find a Bahn Mi stand and get a filled baguette for $1 – $2.

Lunch – Either Bahn Mi for $1 – $2 or corn on the cob from a street vendor for $1 for two.

Dinner – A bowl of noodle soup from a street vendor or local plastic chair restaurant costs about $2.

So on average, for 2 people eating very well, we spent about $8.50 per day.

Cost for 2 people to eat for 4 days = $34

Drink

There are a multitude of bars offering drink deals and of course if you can find a Bia Hoi station then you can drink without any worry about money. Or you can lay off the booze for your time in Nha Trang, with one notable exception – beer pong!!

A fairly new beer pong bar has opened up in Nha Trang and is frequented by both tourists and locals. We had an amazing time with the awesome guys who work there. And the best part? Wednesday night is all you can drink for $4.50. It would be crazy not to!

Of course another type of drinking necessity is water. We used existing water bottles and topped up from 2 x 5L bottles that we bought for $1.25 each.

Cost for 2 people to drink for 4 days = $11.50

Do

Nha Trang is a great place to do next to nothing. The beach is beautiful and we spent most of our time here laying around and playing in the waves.

Of course the beach is free and you can just throw down a towel and chill out, or you can hire sun loungers to get a bit of comfort and shade. We chose the more expensive loungers as the umbrellas included were better. They also come with the added benefit of being off limits to hawkers, who dare’nt enter the surrounding flag boundary. They are still close by though should you want something.

2 loungers and an umbrella set us back $3 a day.

Cost for 2 people to lounge for 4 days = $12

Transport

TIP: Book your onward travel at the train station to save up to $10 per person. A meter taxi one way will cost around $1.50.

Nha Trang is quite compact so everything else is walking distance.

Cost for transport for 2 people for 4 days = $3

Totals

Total cost of being in Nha Trang for 4 days = $96.50
Total cost per day for 2 people = $24.13
Total cost per person per day = $12.10

So as you can see, Nha Trang can really be done on a shoestring without even roughing it. We had such a relaxing time there and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to take a few days out.

NOTE: Prices are based on a conversion of $1 USD = 20,000 VND. When we were there is was around 21,000 VND making it even less than $12 per day.

  1. Wow! I had no idea you could travel anywhere so cheap, and the pictures make it look gorgeous. Nha Trang may have to be my next destination. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi. Very interesting! Where did you hire the sun loungers from?? Going to nha trang tomorrow and would love some proper beach time! Thanks

    • Hi Monica. I’m a little jealous. Have a great time!!

Once you get to the beach you will see loungers set up all the way along. Little coloured flags on their perimeter determine who owns which section. We were within the little blue flags to the left (when looking at the water) of the Sailing Club. They’re cheaper than the sailing club but the closest loungers are still within range of their wifi.

  3. Really love Nha Trang. And, Bahn Mi, really miss it. By the way, did you guys try the Funky Monkey tour there? A really fun tour. My daughter and I had a really good time.
